Reducing Waste with Worm Composting

Learn how composting with worms turns waste into “black gold” and reduces our carbon footprint at the same time.  It’s magic! It’s also easy to do at home. If so desired, workshop participants can work together to build a bin for their classroom or to take home (for an additional supply fee). (2.5 hours) Cost $5 per student, minimum fee $75

Farm to Table Chef

We start right away harvesting ingredients and getting into the farm kitchen to cook a farm to table meal for one another to enjoy.  We will talk about the difference between sustainably grown and conventionally grown food and why local sustainably grown food is better for your body and the environment and is more tasty!  Participants will go home with a recipe or two to try at home and a list of where to source your ingredients locally. (2.5 hours) Cost $5 per student, minimum fee $75

Enjoying Culinary and Medicinal Herbs

Did you know that herbs have been used for centuries as medicine? Did you know that good fresh herbs add incredibly delicious flavor to food? Learn how to identify herbs and which herbs you can grow in your backyard for medicine and for culinary uses.  We’ll create something delicious using herbs for you to taste and a make some medicinal herbal tea bags for participants to take home. (2.5 hours) Cost $5 per student, minimum fee $75

Forest Walk, Art and Qigong

“Qigong (“chee-gong”) is an over five-thousand year-old Chinese health method that combines slow graceful movements with mental concentration and breathing to increase and balance a person’s vital energy.” Start the afternoon, learning some qigong before heading out on the trails for a quiet solo walk in the woods. Being in the forest is known to reduce stress, boost your immune system, and spark creativity. We’ll end the session with an opportunity to create a weather-gram, a very short poem of about 10 words or less to hang along the trail, for the next visitors to enjoy.  (2.5 hours) Cost $5 per student, minimum fee $75

Group Games

Bring your group together for a few hours to play cooperative group games.  We learned these games from ECRS (Eastern Cooperative Recreational School), from Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble, and graduates of Bucknell Theatre Department. This workshop session will include games that are fun, develop leadership, and build community.  Multi-aged groupings are ideal. (1.5 hours) Cost $4 per student, minimum fee $50

Rest, Relax and Renewal Retreats for School Teachers, Staff, and Administrators

Teaching and school administration are both demanding and stressful.  Choose from a variety of relaxing activities such as a self guided forest meditation walk, group building games, and other activities.  We’ll provide an introduction to the farm’s sustainability education projects and a farm tour, and an optional hands-on growing project.  Take home with you some simple sustainable actions to take at home or at school and feel recharged to continue the important leadership for our children and the community. (Half day $6 per teacher, minimum fee per group $100. Full day $9 per teacher, minimum fee per group $150)
